USA - units of Measure and exact conversions

In the USA there are so-called imperial units, which you can convert to the our known Metric system using the listed conversions:

• Length measure:

1 MILE (mi) one mile = 1.609 m

1 FOOT (ft) one foot = 30.48 cm / plural is called FEET (ft)  

1 INCH (in) one inch = 2.54 cm

• Square footage units:

1 ACRE (ac) one acre 4,047 m2 = 0.4 ha

1 SQUARE FOOT (sq ft) square foot = 0.093 m2

1 SQUARE MILE (sq mi) square mile = 2.59 km2 = 259 ha

• Volume units: 

1 GALLON (gal) one gallon = 3.79 l

• Units of mass

1 POUND (lb) one pound = 0.453 kg

1 OUNCE (oz) one ounce = 28.35 g

• Temperature unit:

1 FAHRENHEIT (°F) one degree fahrenheit = ( °F - 32 ) x 5/9  °C

Frost point 0°C = 32°F

Boiling point 100°C = 212°F

For a relatively accurate conversion without a calculator, we give the following help: Take the 32 from the Fahrenheit temperature, then divide the result by two and add this with 10% .
